How to Ace Your Job Interview
First of all, congratulations on getting your recruiter’s attention! Your resume was sleek and polished, with your skills and knowledge properly highlighted, well enough for the recruiter to decide you’re a match.
Now it’s time to come up with your pre-interview strategy. How do you make sure you’re set for your job interview? What are the things you need to prepare?
Below are some tips that will surely help set you up for interview success.
Tip #1: Do your research
Going to your interview fully prepared means that you have done your research on the company – what they do, who they cater to, what kind of culture they have, and what values they uphold.
Knowing the company well gives you context on the questions asked, and would definitely help you craft your answers better. By doing your due diligence as well, you would be able to truly know whether the company’s goals and vision align with yours.
Do your research on:
- The company’s mission-vision
- Company values and culture
- Services and products
- The specific role you are applying for
Tip #2: Examine the job description
As much as possible, dissect the job description into the qualifications, skills, and qualities that the employer is looking for.
Get a good understanding of what the job entails, and whether or not it matches your skill set. Keep in mind that job titles are just the tip of the iceberg. Dig deep into what you would do on a day-to-day basis if hired.
Tip #3: Prepare short but concise answers to common interview questions
Draft a short and quick summary of who you are, what you do, and why you want the job. Make it so this short description would be able to give the talent acquisition specialist a good idea as to whether or not they should endorse you for hiring.
Research on common interview questions and consult with colleagues in the same field to ask about interview processes they went through, any tests they were required to take, and the like.
Some common interview questions that you may want to note:
- Tell me about yourself – something interesting that is not in your resume
- Walk me through your resume
- What interests you about this position?
- What are your greatest strengths?
- Why do you want to work at this company?
Tip #4: Find a conducive area for the interview

Check your Internet connection and make sure to have back up, too.
Find an area in your home that is quiet and free from distractions so you can focus on your conversation with your TA specialist.
Tip #5: Prepare questions for your interviewer
Ask a question that lets the interviewer know you did your research, or you care enough about the company to know more about it and the people who work there.
A few things you can ask your interviewer about:
