Health Check: The Benefits of Running
The SM2SM Run was held last February 17, 2019. It features 4K, 8K, 12K and 21K distances. Almost 5,000 individuals were enlisted in the said event and 28 of which were team members of GoTeam.
GoTeam is a huge supporter of health and wellness. Health plays a very important role in work. Therefore in line with this, GoTeam supported our registered runners by giving them a running jersey
Running is known as a great way to get back in to shape. But aside from this, it has a lot of other health benefits:
1. Running improves your overall health
According to research, running raises your levels of good cholesterol, strengthens your lungs, boosts your immune system, and prevents high blood pressure.
It is also said that running improves your mental health – your brain secretes hormones that naturally improves your mood.
2. Weight Control
According to a report from the American Council on Exercise, running burns more calories than hiking, cycling (10 MPH), Swimming (crawl, moderate pace), and even weight training. So if you’re thinking of shedding some extra weight, this could be a good start for you!
3. Relieves Stress
Running and other exercises cause our brains to produce endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals in the brain which acts as natural pain killers and improves our sleep which then results to relieve stress.
4. Build Stronger Bones
According to a new study from the University of Missouri, researchers found that high-impact activities such as running might have a greater positive effect on bone mineral density (BMD).
5. You age slower
Researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine (https://med.stanford.edu/) tracked 500 older runners for more than 20 years for a study and has found out that elderly runners have fewer disabilities, a longer span of active life and are half as likely as aging nonrunners to die early deaths.
